What Are Your Infant’s Favorite Toys?

The first year is a lot of fun for your infant, since he or she gets
a lot of toys to play with. In fact, some of them become such favorites
that your child might refuse to part with them for years to come! The
vast range of toys that manufacturers have come up with is truly mind-boggling!
And with advancing science and technology, more are to come in future.
You never had it so good, did you?
Now, if you are planning to get some toys for your toddler, do go in
for those that work on the principle of “cause and effect”. What we mean
to say is, choose those toys that produce some sort of movement or sound
when they are touched or pressed. You will understand why they are such
favorites with young ones when you see the joy on their faces! You can
try a small experiment—switch on and switch off light switches.
There is another aspect to this kind of playthings. Babies are very dependent
on people. But when your infant is able to use a cause-and-effect toy
on his/her own, he or she comes to terms with his or her own power. It
is a surprise for your child to learn that he or she can control the world
around him or her to some extent at least! Try any of the toys mentioned
below, and see for yourself!
(1) Things that make a squeaky sound when pressed in the middle will
definitely appeal to the young one. In fact, you will get tired of the
sound by the time your baby finishes with them!
(2) Then, there are toys designed to make a hidden figure pop up when
a certain action is performed. For instance, actions like spinning, turning
a key, pushing a button, pulling on a lever, etc.
(3) Rattles are a favorite with most babies.
(4) You can also go in for balls with tiny bells inside. The ringing
sounds produced are very pleasant to hear!
(5) And what about toys that can be pulled around?
(6) Some toys come out with musical tones the minute their strings are
pulled.
(7) You may find this messy, but your kid will love it! Let the toys
accept the sand or water that is poured into them! And your child will
never get tired of repeating the same action.
(8) Infants that are ten months old or even older will be able to entertain
themselves by ringing bells, pushing buttons, and spinning telephone dials.
These are all crib-side activities.
If you wish to find out what your baby will like even before actually
purchasing the toys,
allow him or her to handle a borrowed toy and watch for the reaction.
Even better, let the infant play with other children and their toys. Some
stores have special play areas where the child is allowed to handle playthings
before making a selection. Observe the reaction, expression, and handling;
if a particular toy seems suitable, buy it.
In conclusion, if you are planning to get used playthings from garage
sales, tag sales or yard sales—please examine each one minutely before
you purchase it. There should be no broken or missing parts. Your baby’s
safety should be your first priority at all times.
