Practice Thrift When Purchasing Toys as Gifts!

Toys are nice to play with, but they can also create quite a hole in your
pocket if you have to buy too many of them! Now, we are not talking about
your own child’s playthings; we are referring to the numerous presents
you will have to keep spending on as his/her social circle expands and
so do the parties.
But there is a way out, where you can purchase your gifts and still keep
within a sensible budget—
(1) Since almost every home has a computer, use it as your first stop
for shopping. There are plenty of toy stores that have created their own
websites. Browse through them and compare prices, many of them offer daily
coupons or weekly specials. Even if you have to take print outs of the
coupons, the expenditure is very small as compared to the amount you save
on your actual gifts. Do check the genuineness of the company though.
(2) There is a popular website that you can check out—www.craigslist.com.
Type in the name of your city first—then type baby or kids. You will see
a whole list of toys and advertisements for toys coming up. Many of them
are new toys which have not even been removed from their boxes. This is
because those who have received age-inappropriate toys or duplicates of
the ones they already possess wish to get rid of them. And the prices
are affordable. A word of caution, though—sometimes, there is a national
recall on a particular toy; so check that out before you part with your
cash.
(3) Sunday newspapers are full of classifieds. Check out the stores that
are putting up sales. Do look for coupons, if any. You will also be able
to compare the prices of toys available at different stores. Toys can
be found at “toy stores” as well as at mega retail outlets.
(4) The good thing about toy stores is that they are always having sales!
More such sales are offered during the holiday season. If you are wise,
you will pay frequent visits and collect a good pile of gifts for future
use. Keep track of upcoming birthdays, special occasions involving children
festival time, etc. If your cupboard is well stocked, you need not worry
about presents. Additionally, you end up with quite a bit of savings since
you purchased them at sales in one go.
(5) Sometimes, you might receive gift cards; keep them for a rainy day.
They come in useful during emergencies when you need to get a present
for someone. If you have made any exchanges without receipts, you will
receive store credit. This comes in handy during emergencies too. Therefore,
do not misuse your gift cards or store credit.
(6) All toys come with wrapping paper or gift bags. Save the paper and
the bags. Children are least bothered about the wrapping or the card on
top; they are only eager to know what is inside. The wrapping paper can
always be reused if it is removed carefully. As for cards, why not use
hand-made ones? The thought behind the gift is important, not the outer
decorations!
